Smoke-free Signage Guidance (1st October 2012)

This guidance is to help local authority regulatory officers use the new requirements to best effect and to help businesses continue to use smoke-free signs that both comply with the law and help the public comply with not smoking where it is prohibited in public places and vehicles.

Seven good reasons to make public places smoke-free in Cambridgeshire:

  • Environmental tobacco smoke harms and kills: that’s a fact.
  • Employers have a duty to protect their staff and clients.
  • People have a right to a smoke-free environment.
  • Most people strongly dislike environmental tobacco smoke.
  • Children exposed to smoking role models and advertising are proven to be more likely to smoke.
  • Smoking can cause fires, and does cause litter problems. Active smoke-free policies can help people to quit smoking.

Cambridgeshire Action on Tobacco is a multi-agency alliance with representatives from NHS Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire County Council Trading Standards and district councils.  Our work is continually developing and together with your help we can create a smoke free future for Cambridgeshire.
